Composer Spotlight - Hildur Guðnadóttir

Hildur Ingveldardóttir Guðnadóttir is an incredible composer who, if you have not heard of her, you will certainly have heard of the hit shows/films she has worked on.  Born in 1982, Hildur is a singer, cello player and composer born in Iceland, but now based in Berlin.

Guðnadóttir is best known for composing the score to the 2019 film Joker, which won her the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. This accolade was made even more special as she was the first solo female composer to ever win in this category. She also won the Best Original Score award at the Oscars for the same film- becoming the first Icelandic to ever win an Oscar.

She also worked on the 2019 series Chernobyl, which won her an Emmy Award and a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.

With all of these prestigious prizes, at the age of 37, Hildur is only a Tony away from bagging the EGOT title- someone who has won an Academy, Emmy, Grammy and a Tony Award, joining the ranks with the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Marvin Hamlisch and Richard Rogers.

Just the other weekend [Saturday 24th October], Guðnadóttir continued with the award-winning spree, when she was awarded the Film Composer of the Year prize at the World Soundtracks Award for her work on Joker.

We’re excited to see what Hildur has in store for us in the upcoming years!

If there’s one example of Hildur Guðnadóttir’s excellent work, you should listen to Chernobyl. Guðnadóttir played an integral part in turning a bleak subject into a work of beauty
