Synth duo Solari selects Favourites
Solari the band Likes This Music
Castlebeat ‘Looking for Something’
Clearly influenced by New Order (Blue Monday) - it has that post punk bass/guitar interaction. There’s a nostalgia to it that makes us want to drive through a snowy city at night. Also: we’re also always looking for something.
George Kaplan Conspiracy ‘Again’
The building nature of this track reminds of our a soundtrack to an adventure. After the initial build the track feels like warm synthetic arms holding you tight.
Teeel ‘Triangle Waves’
It feels like it will be a ambient track but the drums are huge - like a conversation between giants.
Com Truise ‘Cyanide’
The track wakes up out of a cyber dream. The beat is huge and cool. I don’t recommend taking cyanide but I do recommend this track.
Kavinsky ‘Night Call’
Makes us want to drive. :) Some of the best sounding synth music of the past decade. The vocoder is so cold/strange and inhuman - playing against a human background vocal. The release of the B section feels like elation. A perfect song of the modern synth era.
Ryuichi Sakamoto ‘Merry Christmas, My Lawrence’
The original version of this song is so chillingly haunting. It’s one of Solari’s favorite songs. It sounds and feels like a magical evening.
Broadcast ‘Echo’s Answer’
We miss Trish. Her voice is so soothing against the angular sound of Broadcast. This sounds like what you hear when everything is good. Lord Tennyson helped out with the lyrics.

Bronski Beat ‘Smalltown Boy’
An amazing catchy song. Very minimal in terms of orchestration but with a perfect build. It was a groundbreaking song about being gay in a not gay friendly small-town. The video is poignant. It is also very catchy.
Soft Cell ‘Tainted Love’
The track is so sparse and strange. They took a Motown song and turned it into a futuristic masterpiece. Marc Almond is a super emotional singer. Brilliant track.
OMD ‘She’s Leaving’
It has that hypnotic built that brings so much beauty. “Everyday A new start. A cheap affair. A sordid truth. We'll never learn.” Lyrics are so good.
Kate Bush ‘ Hounds Of Love’
What can we say? Kate Bush is brilliant. Love the song and the production. Simple yet so effective.
Yellow Magic Orchestra ‘ Behind The Mask’
This track fuses electronic with funk and disco which we love. The drum groove and the driving bass synth is a big inspiration to some of our songs. The vocoder is sick too.
