What is Ambient Jazz ?
Ambient Jazz combines the typical Jazz ensemble such as trio, quartet or quintet of piano bass and drums and or with trumpet, saxophone and perhaps clarinet with, often synths and electronics, the atmospheric elements and textures from Ambient Music. A fusion of sounds, cinematic, ethereal and sophisticated. Jazz saxophones, trumpets and double bass are interwoven with electronic sounds, synthesizers and minimal melodies characteristic of Ambient Music creating a more layered interpretation pushing the boundaries of Jazz. The result a modern sound that often feels spacious, with the focus on creating a mood or atmosphere rather than the more traditional Jazz forms such as BeBop, Free Jazz or Standards. Ambient Jazz can be hypnotic with lush soundscapes.
Classic ambient jazz album examples include Miles Davis ‘Sketches Of Spain’, Pat Metheny Group ‘Still Life Talking’ and Steve Reich ‘Music For 18 Musicians’. London artist Ambient Jazz Ensemble employs the emotive elements from classical music with the Jazz palette of sounds creating warm feel good music.
